ecoprint-system4™ : Reduce energy consumption

Aim: To reduce energy consumption through the adoption of appropriate working practices and technologies.

The issues: Greenhouse gas emissions are the most significant environmental impact for printers according to recent research by Trucost/Williams Lea 1n 2007* mainly due to the use of fossil fuels in providing energy and, therefore, energy conservation is a key area for printers who wish to effectively reduce their environmental impact.

Why ecoprint-system4™?

ecoprint-system4™ uses a number of technologies and practices to reduce its' energy usage;

a] Up to 15%** of energy used in the process is obtained from energy generated by PV Solar panels installed in 2005.
b] The lithographic print production area uses a segmented lighting system which means that lighting can be used only in working areas rather than having to turn the lights on in the whole of the production area
c] The pre press areas and digital print areas have been adapted to maximize the use of natural light, thus reducing the need for lighting.
d] A switch off policy is implemented in the production areas, including pre press, press and post press production areas.
e] Technologies such a CTP, CIP3 and autoplate loading are used to reduce the the wastage in lithographic print production and therefore reduce energy usage.

Customer benefits from the ecoprint-system4™ energy policy:

- Future proof pricing
- Competitive pricing

Energy is a bottom line cost to all business and has a more significant role for the printing sector. Energy prices have seen rapid increases recently are also predicted to continue to rise in the near future, therefore any printing system that looks to reduce its energy usage will see a reduction in their bottom line costs, which can be passed onto customers. Furthermore, these benefits will become more apparent with the predicted rise in energy costs and therefore those customers who are looking to establish a partnership approach with their printing suppliers will benefit from knowing that pricing from ecoprint-system4™ will remain competitive now and in the coming years.
